Welcome to The Norman Primary School

Thank you for visiting our website. We aim to provide you with a variety of information to help you get a flavour of our lovely and caring school.

We believe that for children to learn they need to feel safe, secure and happy. They need to be stimulated, encouraged and allowed to make mistakes; for in doing so they will learn. The Norman Church School provides a creative and challenging curriculum that asks each child to be responsible for their own learning; encourages children to express their views and feelings, which we take very seriously; and to believe in themselves.

Having a church foundation is important to us. We believe that our values encourage us to be inclusive and welcoming to all whatever their faith, ethnicity, disability or gender. In Galatians chp 5 v 22-23 there is a helpful description of the fruits of the Spirit: "But what happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in the orchard - things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick to things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely." We believe these things to be so.

We became part of the Diocese of Ely Multi-academy Trust in July 2014. We are excited about this new adventure in the life of the school and believe the school, will continue to flourish and grow with their support.

We are fortunate to have a staff team who work tirelessly to create interesting and challenging experiences for our children. They hold the children to high standards of achievement in a thoughtful and caring way. We are very concerned to ensure our children are emotionally secure and view the partnership with our families as underpinning our work. Our families are positive about the school.

We are very much a village school with the benefits of a caring and supportive community around us. Our year is marked by traditional village and church calendar events often celebrated in creative and idiosyncratic ways. The local community are very generous in supporting fund raising events, which has ensured we are well resourced.

Although our building is small, the space is utilised well so we are able to effectively explore all aspects of the curriculum. We have a well stocked library and a superb ICT suite. All classrooms are bright and have easy access to outside learning spaces. Small group work can occur in the classroom or in one of our two group rooms. The children play and exercise throughout the year on the large Fendick Field, left in trust to the children of Northwold for their use. On the field is our Langley Lodge which is a beautifully crafted outdoor learning space where, at playtimes, our children weave magical adventures and in lesson time it becomes transmogrified into an Indian home, a story telling shelter or any number of imaginative learning stimuli.

Our children are happy and show incredible care for one another. Our ‘family group’ system encourages children to get to know one another across age boundaries and we witness incredible acts of kindness daily. There is much laughter in our school.

I hope you enjoy exploring our website and learning more about us. Do contact us if you would like more information and / or if you would like to arrange a visit.
