Welcome to the final half-term of 2019 in Barcelona Class
So far this term in our Topic, Barcelona class have been learning about the seaside. We have been thinking about the features you might find at the seaside, and discussing the difference between manmade and natural objects such as the sand and the pier. We have also been looking at where different seaside locations are around the UK. We will be continuing by learning about natural and manmade features and what the seaside looked like in the past compared to now.
In English we will be creating information texts about the seaside. We will be informing our readers about things we can do at the seaside. We will also be looking at a mixture of styles of poetry where the children will investigate the style and then using a stimulus will have their own go at writing a piece of poetry in that style.
In Maths we will be revisiting the four operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be looking at 2D and 3D shape. As well as that, the children will be looking at money in more detail and will have a challenge of organising a class party for the end of term where they have a set amount of money to spend.
In PE the children will be focusing on athletics, preparing themselves for sports day. They will be focusing on running events as well as field events which will include throwing and ball skills. The children will also be looking at how to support team mates and how to encourage everyone to do their best and just take part.
When it comes to art we will be sticking to the theme of ‘The Seaside’ and the children will be given the opportunity to create some large art using resources that you would find at the seaside. As well as that, they will be attempting to paint beautiful designs on to pebbles.
The children have worked extremely hard this year and I have seen huge improvements in their skills. I look forward to seeing them blossom even more in our final half term together.

Once again, thank you to all who support the children in their learning by listening to them read daily, helping them to learn spellings and by having those all important conversations! It makes such a difference.
