Normans Create a Splash at Grafham Water Centre.
Last week twenty four children from years 5 and 6 at the Norman School took to the waters at Grafham Water Centre for a fun-filled three day residential.
On the morning of 19th September 2012, twenty-four excited Normans gathered in the school hall ready to embark on their adventure to Grafham Water Centre. There was a buzz of excitement as they anticipated all of the fun and challenges that lay ahead.
Arriving at the centre, their home for the next three days, the group were awe-struck by the vast reservoir that stretched out before them. A guided tour of their new habitat filled the group with more excitement about what was to come. It was soon time for a hearty lunch before the intrepid explorers set out for their first activities.
Over the course of the three days, the Norman adventurers conquered many fears and pushed themselves to their limits in order to accomplish some impressive feats. Each one of them completed a ten mile mountain bike ride through a route riddled with leg-burning ascents and rollercoaster-like descents. They bravely scaled great heights on the high rope course, they sailed across the 2 mile reservoir and back, having skilfully rigged up their own vessels, and they played daring games in rafted canoes, involving a touch of boat-hopping!
The focus of the activities was to be the BEST that they could be:
Brave; try everything.
Trust and teamwork.
Without exception, each child showed great skills and achievements in all of these areas and proved that they are indeed some of the very BEST.
